Vintage Redwork Valentine...

X-X-X-X-X-

Redwork... is from the days when one could purchase "muslin penny" squares at a local dry good store. The squares were stamped with designs for ones stitching pleasure. Little girls would practice their stitches on these squares. Monochromatic being the color scheme, colors of red, blue or black thread were used.

The red thread was usually dyed with Turkey Red dye and only stitched with the one color. Washing and drying the stitched fabrics in the sun would not fade the colorfast red thread.

If anyone has more knowledge of the history of Redwork to share... please do! *wink*

My dear friend, Asela over at Hop Art Studio is so generous to share some Valentine designs with us... can't wait to see what you create with them! *wink*

So cute, Anne! Boy, would my mom love them - they look like Campbell's Kids, and they are her favorite!

Adorable! I'd never heard of redwork, I wonder whether there was an equivalent on this side of the Pond?
